Today I'm in a funk. No it's not from lack of washing and I'm not referring to smell. I mean those days like today when I feel so borderline crazy due to lack of sleep, overwhelming toddler and sticky baby that I just need to have some ME time. With two kids its harder to have time to myself which is why its so important! You don't necessarily need to leave the house to have ME time you just need to do something for you. These are my favourite things to fill up my cup.
1. Shower and wash hair. This makes such a huge difference to any funk. If I feel sleep deprived and like crap then shower it is. Usually when Ian's home so I can lock the door and be alone BUT if hes not I'll strip Oli off and bring him in with me. Then I put on new clothes, pyjamas mostly but they gotta be fresh because thats the most important part!
2. Get outside. Walk around the garden and breathe in the fresh air. Usually I carry Rube around the yard when Oli plays. Mother nature is the cure to almost any funky feelings.
3. Mum dates. This week I woke up after a really unsettled night and couldn't be bothered doing anything. But I threw my hair up in a bun, got dressed and out the door. Catching up with my midwife friends is THE most therapeutic thing ever! We are all in the same boat, we can laugh and share how we are feeling without being judged. Plus the kids play and we drink tea -win win!! Having someones house you can go to and feel like you don't have to watch every single thing your toddler does is so comforting.
4. MOSAIC. This is my favourite hobby. I love it so much! I love making beautiful mosaics, whether that be pots, pictures, pavers or even my letterbox. It's so therapeutic. I have recently got into using old plates and crockery from the op shops. I love giving them away as presents or just keeping them to turn my garden into a mosaiced heaven!! Everywhere I look I are potential for mosaics or something to smash. Ian thinks I have gone mosaic mad and says why?! Not everything needs sparkle Ell! I've told him he better not stand still too long or he will get mosaiced.
These are things I do to take care of myself on those crappy days. I'm now off to take my own advice. Jump in the shower, get dressed, walk down to the local coffee shop to meet our friends then I'll be coming home to mosaic the afternoon away.
